Barefoot Musica Antigua is an emerging and dynamic group of musicians founded by a group of friends in Sydney University in 2008. Coming from a range of academic disciplines they perform a diverse repertoire from 14th Century French Polyphony to modern arrangements of traditional melodies; singing sacred and secular music; from both the West and the Middle East. Barefoot's approach is in direct opposition to the generally accepted white note interpretations of Early Music promoted by David Wulstan and Peter Phillips, preferring a more individual raw sound.
Following two successful concert series in 2009 – Unquiet Thoughts and Songs of Ascents (featuring the works of Salamone Rossi) – Barefoot has released their first album INCIPIT. Its sales will help to raise funds to sing Rossi's music at its home in in the Venice Ghetto in 2010.
